About the Call for Panels

Panel sessions provide space for a group of presenters to explore one common theme through different perspectives. Proposals should connect with the MEDCOM 2027 conference theme: “Signals Beyond the Algorithm: Humanity, Trust & Freedom in an AI-Driven Media World”

Panels may focus on academic, professional, policy, or practice-based issues in media and mass communication, including AI-driven media, journalism, misinformation, platform governance, social media, communication ethics, press freedom, civic information, crisis communication, environmental communication, strategic communication, culture, or other MEDCOM 2027 tracks.

Who can Submit?

Panel proposals may be submitted by a Panel Moderator representing:

  • Universities, academic departments, and higher education institutions
  • Research centers, media schools, and professional associations
  • Institutional partners, interdisciplinary research groups, or professional networks

The Panel Moderator should submit the proposal on behalf of the full panel and act as the main contact person.

Benefits of Presenting as a Panel

  • Explore a complex issue in greater depth by connecting several perspectives within one coordinated session.
  • Increase the visibility of a shared research area, professional initiative, policy concern, or practice-based project.
  • Strengthen international, inter-institutional, interdisciplinary, and academic-professional collaboration.
  • Create more time for audience interaction, comparative discussion, and practical exchange than a stand-alone presentation.
  • Develop new research, publication, partnership, teaching, or professional networking opportunities after the conference.

Panel Structure

  • Each panel should include 4 participants in total, including the Panel Moderator.
  • Panels may include presenters from one institution or from multiple institutions.
  • International, inter-institutional, and interdisciplinary collaboration is encouraged.
  • The Panel Moderator will introduce the session, coordinate speakers, manage time, and facilitate discussion.

Proposal Requirements

  • Panel title that clearly reflects the session theme.
  • Selected MEDCOM 2027 track or subject area.
  • An overall panel abstract explaining the theme, objectives, significance, internal coherence, and relevance to the MEDCOM 2027 audience.
  • An individual presentation title and short abstract for each presenter.
  • Full name, professional title, institutional affiliation, country, and email address for every participant.
  • A compulsory short biography for the Panel Moderator and every presenter (recommended maximum: 150 words per person).
  • For academic research presentations, co-author details, research status, and any applicable ethics, funding, or conflict-of-interest declarations.
  • Confirmation that every participant has agreed to be included in the proposal and to attend if the panel is accepted.

50-60 minutes, subject to the final program

Review and Selection

All panel proposals will be reviewed by evaluators appointed by the conference organizers. The review will focus on thematic relevance, academic quality, clarity, coherence, and value for the MEDCOM 2027 audience.

Panel sessions are non-competitive and are intended to promote exchange of ideas rather than compare individual papers. Panel presentations are not positioned for individual Best Paper or Best Presenter awards unless a separate panel recognition category which is confirmed later.
